Team Bombsquad and East West Combat Enjoy Successful Weekend
Fighters from Team Bombsquad from Cortland and East West Combat from Syracuse both had successful trips down to the PA Championships in Harrisburg, PA this weekend. Despite being delayed a day due to the snowstorm that swept across the east coast, they walked away with three wins and one loss for the day. Mike Winters and Kenny Foster from the Bombsquad won split decisions, and Marc Gervais from East West Combat took home a victory by way of rear naked choke. The lone loss was Mike Geurin from the Bombsquad who was submitted by RNC. Unfortunately, Pat Bennett, the Bombsquad heavyweight from Syracuse, was unable to compete as his opponent was a no-show. As previously reported, Bombsquad’s Don Carlo-Clauss also walked away with a victory at XCFL this weekend, as did Matt Serra making it a good weekend for New York Fighters.

UFC 109 Results
Mac’s MMA was out in Las Vegas for UFC 109 to support all the New York guys fighting this weekend. Rolles lost by TKO in the second round to Joey Beltran. Phillipe Nover fought a close battle against Rob Emerson but came up short in the judge’s eyes losing by unanimous decision. Despite the loss, Philippe was kind enough to provide us an interview which will be posted soon. Matt Serra looked impressive dropping Frank Trigg with that overhand right that’s been so effective for him in his fights, and earning him KO of the night. After the fight his trainer Ray Longo told us that Matt had been drilling jiu itsu for two weeks leading up to the fight thinking that it might go to the ground. Apparently that was unnecessary! Great job to all the New Yorkers! Oh yeah, Randy also won as did Chael Sonnen in a war with Nate Marquardt. Paulo Thiago won submission of the night with a D’arce choke which he secured after tagging MIke Swick with a good left.

Don Carlo-Clauss Victorious at XCFL Event
According to Ryan Ciotoli of Team Bombsquad, Don Carlo-Clauss won a split decision over highly regarded Calvin Kattar from Premier Martial Arts at the XCFL event held last night. This is a huge win for Don, who lives in Rochester and trains at the Bombsquad in Cortland, and should move him up the ranks to be numbered among the best of the lightweights in the Northeast. Congratulations Don!

Big Weekend for New York Fighters!
February 6th 2010 is a big day for New York fighters who will be competing across the country that day. On a local level we have Kenny Foster (Cortland), Mike Winters (Webster), Pat Bennett (Syracuse), Mike Geurin (trains in Cortland) and Marc Gervais (Syracuse) all fighting at the PA Fighting Championships in Harrisburg, PA. Don Carlo Clauss (Greece, NY) wil be fighting at XCFL Marlborough Convention Center in Massachusetts (see below). Finally, at the big show in Las Vegas, UFC 109, Matt Serra (Long Island), Rolles Gracie (NYC), Phillipe Nover (Brooklyn) and Frank Trigg (originally from Rochester area) will all be fighting. The Empire State is representing!

Dave and Joe from Mac’s MMA will be flying out to Las Vegas for UFC 109 this weekend. Keep an eye out for them as they will be at the weigh-ins and tracking down interviews of New York fighters and anyone else they can grab at Mandalay Bay. If you see them, say hi – they will likely be wearing their Mac’s MMA New York gear.

Team Bombsquad Sends Five Fighters to PA Fighting Championships in Harrisburg, PA on February 6th
Team Bombsquad, one of the pre-eminent mma gyms in New York State, will be sending five fighters to The Pennsylvania Fighting Championships II at the Zembo in Harrisburg, PA. Those fighting are MIke Guerin, Pat Bennett, Don Carlo Clauss, Mike Winters and Kenny Foster. Check out these interviews with some of the guys.
