HOME

Mac’s MMA, is a website dedicated to the promotion of the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) in New York State. This site is for the fighter, trainer, casual practitioner and fan of mma and is designed to be both an informational resource (through relevant articles on training, nutrition, fighting technique, etc), and a promotional tool for mma fighters and their gyms (through interviews, videos and and positive articles about the sport in New York). We also provide updates on how legalization efforts are progressing in the state.
Our Fighters Page highlights the pro mma fighters of New York through posting stats and brief bios, thereby giving them some additional publicity as they pursue their fighting careers. We also visit gyms and fighters across the state promoting them on the site through articles and video interviews.
Finally, check out our original Mac’s MMA Original Line of apparel in our store. We will be adding other gear and products shortly. Thanks for visiting!

N.Y. Secretary of State Pushes for Legalization
New York Secertary of State Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez wrote a well-reasoned editorial in the Albany Times Union supporting the Governor’s push for the legalization of mma in the state. She reiterates the oft-stated but still very compelling points that mma could be a financial boon to the state, while being regulated in a responsible way as a “fair and disciplined bona-fide athletic competition.” She goes on to say that “[A] goal of legalizing MMA is to cut down on the number of poorly regulated or unregulated knockoffs that put unlicensed, unprepared individuals in harm’s way.” Encouraging.

And then there were Three — Another New Yorker Released After UFC 109
In what had become a tough event for New York fighters, UFC 109 claims another victim from the Empire State as the UFC released Rolles Gracie. Though he fought only once, the UFC apparently thought Rolles’ performance was poor enough to warrant a quick exit from the promotion. It has been reported that Rolles entered the fight with a broken foot, which would certainly explain his struggles during the fight. This appears not to have been given much if any consideration, however, in their decision. With Trigg and Nover, that makes three New Yorkers dropped after this one event. Cmon UFC, leave NY alone-we have enough problems in the legalization dept!

Mac’s MMA caught up with Phillipe Nover at Mandalay Bay shortly after his fight against Rob Emerson at UFC 109. Despite losing a close battle with Emerson, Phillipe was kind enough to grant us an interview and spoke candidly about his loss, as well as his future plans. Nice guy with a bright future in this sport. Thanks Phillipe and Cee!

Mike Winters and Kenny Foster from the Bombsquad won split decisions, and Marc Gervais from East West Combat took home a victory by way of rear naked choke.
